Drive Test Stages

On-road driving
The on-road driving component is split into two stages. In order to move on to the second stage, the candidate must pass the first stage.
Prior to your appointment
Before your scheduled appointment, please ensure you have:
Fulfilled and reported your 120 hours of practice (if required)
Completed and passed your Hazard Perception Test

On-road driving - stage one
The first stage of the test is intended to evaluate your driving safety in less demanding situations. The testing officer will provide you with straightforward instructions during the test, such as "at the next street, turn right". It is important to follow the instructions and demonstrate safe and efficient driving. If you are unsure of any instructions, ask for them to be repeated.
The first stage of the test will take approximately 10 minutes. Once completed, the testing officer will instruct you to stop safely at the curb while they evaluate your performance.
If you engage in any unsafe or illegal behavior during the first stage, the test will be terminated and you will not pass.
It may include
Start and stop the vehicle
Make left and right turns at intersections
Change lanes
Additionally, stage one includes a low-speed parking maneuver, which will be one of the following:
Reverse parallel parking
Three point-turn
If you are unsure about how to perform this task, please speak to your driving instructor.
On-road driving - stage two
If you successfully pass the first stage of the on-road driving test, you will move on to stage two. This stage is conducted in busier traffic and aims to evaluate your ability to safely perform normal driving tasks. The testing officer will provide you with straightforward instructions during the test, such as "at the next street, turn right". It is important to follow the instructions and demonstrate safe and efficient driving. If you are unsure of any instructions, ask for them to be repeated.
The second stage of the test will take approximately 20 minutes.
If you engage in any unsafe or illegal behaviour during the second stage, the test will be terminated and you will not pass.
It may include
Drive in busy traffic

Test results for the driving test
Feedback
Upon completion of the driving test, the testing officer will provide feedback on your performance and inform you if you passed or failed. They will also identify any areas that need improvement.
Successful?
If you are successful, this feedback will assist you in becoming a safer driver. During your first year of solo driving, the risk of accidents is higher. Utilize the feedback received from the test to improve your driving skills.
Unsuccessful?
This feedback can assist you in your next test and indicate that additional practice is required. Individuals develop safe driving skills at different paces. Some learners may require more practice than others before they are ready to take the driving test.
Causes of a failed test could include:
Creating a dangerous situation
Making major mistakes during the test
Displaying a pattern of reckless behaviour.
